Roadside blast in Pattani wounds three policemen on patrol

THREE patrolling police were slightly wounded by a roadside bomb laid by insurgents in Pattani province yesterday morning. The attack happened just before 8am on a road in Tambon Sabarang in Muang district.

Polices said the 10-kilogram bomb was assembled in a pipe and was detonated with a walkie-talkie.
Pol Colonel Kirati Wae-yuso, the Muang district police chief, said the attack occurred while the three police were patrolling near the foot of Chabang Tiko bridge.
Lance Corporals Sudiruman Yilate, 29, Yosying Chuchangwang, 27, and Phumdej Trintrakan, 25, were admitted to Pattani Hospital with sore chests and ringing in the ears.
It is believed an insurgent detonated the bomb from a nearby location.
Earlier, at about 7am in Pattani’s Nong Chik district, a banner was found hanging at the Padae Lalong School in Tambon Bo Thong bearing an anti-state message written in Malay and Thai.
A bag containing a suspicious object was found hanging from a tree branch nearby.
Police found benign electrical wires inside it.
Three similar banners were found in front of the Ban Khon Muang School and in front of the Khlong Khut Mosque in Nong Chik district and at a village in Tambon Rata Panyang in Yaring district.
