'Lalin' This Pretty Girl Is The Internet Goddess

'Lalin' This Pretty Girl Is The Internet Goddess

You hardly see people pull their faces away from their mobile devices these days. Take the BTS, for example. What are they looking at on that screen? Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Line, Whatsapp or whatever chatting/social application is the latest craze,

Our entire society is becoming social media addicted and obsessed. Likes and followers seems to be more important than anything to everyone these days. That certainly is the case with Lalin, our anti-hero.

After high school, Lalin finds herself a new home in Japan where she continues her undergrad study and quickly grows in popularity on Instagram among Thais back home. She is featured everywhere as a Japan-residing “net idol” whose Instagram stream inspires envy for her kawaii look and dreamy lifestyle.

Despite massive online fame, Lalin, however, is not satisfied with her lot in life. She cannot accept herself and achieve inner peace. That one missing piece, that one big hole in the middle of her heart, is owing to an absolute mismatch between her online and offline appearances.
Lies ultimately become her life. One more color-contrast level down the scale would never hurt anyone, Lalin thinks. Little do her followers know too that her Instagram posts have been filtered, brightness-enhanced, shadow-improved, saturation-adjusted, and photoshopped beyond any recognition of her true self.
You might wonder if Lalin will ever find a way back to her real identity. How will she climb out of the trap she set up for herself and be free again? Watch the short film “Lalin” by Pornkasem Clinic that has young people in Thailand reconsidering their relationship with social media.
