US extends tariff privileges for 11 Thai products

The United States has agreed to extend its Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) for all 11 Thai products for another year, helping Thai exporters save at least Bt70 million in import tariffs, the Commerce Ministry reported.

Most of the items are agricultural products, said Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn. None of Thai products is cut out of the GSP list, she added.
She said that the US had decided to give tariff privileges for these products based on last year's statistics.  Even though they had more than 50 per cent of the import market, the value was below the minimum level of US$22.5 million. As such, they would be waived from import taxes.
The products are fresh orchids, fresh durian, dried papaya, dried tamarind, processed corn, preserved fruits, processed papaya, processed food, ceramic dolls, processed coconut, and copper wire.
