Singaporean envoy delivers books to Nation U

SINGAPORE Ambassador Chua Siew San came to the Nation University's Bang Na campus last week to hand over a number of books, which she says will help students get a better understanding of her country.

The books, covering a variety of subjects including Singaporean history and culture, were presented at a ceremony on the campus on Monday.
Also present were Nation University president Asst Prof Pong-in Rakariyatham and Nation Multimedia Group (NMG) editor-in-chief Thepchai Yong. The university is part of the NMG. Chua said she believed this book-giving exercise would help boost diplomatic ties between the two countries as well as in the Asean community.
Nation University is among other educational institutions in the North, Northeast and South to have received books from the embassy. The envoy also delivered books to the National Library of Thailand.
Pong-in defined this exercise as the first gesture of collaboration between the university and the embassy. “We have not discussed other collaborations, though I hope we can look forward to academic exchange and partnerships,” he said, adding that Thai universities considered Singapore a role model in educational development.
In a move to further develop diplomatic ties, the Singapore Embassy has organised a series of events, including football matches and delivering books to universities.
Another recent event organised by the embassy was the Singapore Festival, under the “Greatest Reflection of Happiness” theme, which was graciously opened by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, The Princess also perused the photo exhibition, “Thais Remember Singapore”, organised to mark the city-state’s 50th year of independence.
