Shan Myanmar girl, 15, rescued from karaoke bar

Shan Myanmar girl, 15, rescued from karaoke bar

KANCHANABURI - A medical test has confirmed that one of the seven sex workers rescued on Wednesday from a karaoke bar in Kanchanaburi's Muang district was a 15-year-old Shan Myanmar girl.

Officials said they would proceed with human trafficking charges against the bar’s owner and employees.
Following an anti-trafficking organisation’s tip-off about prostitution, a sting operation was conducted at the railway-side bar in Tambon Pak Phrae.
Officials found seven sex workers and a Myanmar maid, 28. They apprehended receptionist Somchai Intra, 59, and bar caretaker Nonthasit Chomdara, 39. Six of the sex workers were from Myanmar and one was from Laos. One Myanmar girl was identified as 22 years old on her passport, but she was suspected of being much younger. She was submitted for dental and bone mass tests at the Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital and found to be 15 years old.
The elusive bar owner, Supichaya Kleepmek, 47, as well as two apprehended employees, Somchai and Nonthasit, would be charged with human trafficking, Muang Kanchanaburi district chief Sattha Kachaplayuk said.
