Charter drafter updates international community on the writing of the constitution

Charter drafter updates international community on the writing of the constitution

Charter drafter spokesman Norachit Sinhaseni met with more than 50 diplomats and representatives of international organisations on Monday to update them on the Constitution writing progress.

Among the attendees of the 40-minute meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were seven ambassadors and two charges d’affaires, the spokesman reported.
He also noted that he had informed the envoys of how and why the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) had taken office as well as what they had been doing in their first two weeks of work.
The press was not allowed to observe the meeting. However, Norachit later said that the only question asked in the forum was when the people could see the charter to which he replied that the first draft would be published in January. After that, CDC would gather comments and revisit the draft accordingly and appropriately, he added.
The diplomats and international officials hadn’t raised any other concerns, he added.
Asked if the envoys had enquired about a referendum or how CDC would proceed if the draft were to be rejected, Norachit said drafters hadn’t yet discussed this issue.
Norachit added that no further meeting with the international agencies had been scheduled but one would be arranged when appropriate.
