Buffalo on the run
Chon Buri yesterday hosted water buffalo races, the annual event that has attracted locals and visitors.
In the run, beefy buffaloes, skinny buffaloes and white buffaloes raced against each other over a 100-metre-long grassy strip, leaving a huge cloud of dust in the air.
The race is held annually in October among rice farmers to celebrate the rice harvest and mark the end of Buddhist Lent.
The Thai water buffaloes are not as aggressive as Spanish bulls, though.
A group of buffalo conservationists earlier this month submitted a petition to the government, calling for the declaration of February 4 as the national day for Thai buffalos.
