Cabinet OK's new Social Security laws

The Cabinet yesterday approved in principle five organic laws under the new Social Security Act (Amendment number 4) 2015, as proposed by the Labour Ministry. These organic laws will be passed on to the Office of Council of State for further procedure.

The five organic laws were:
1. A draft royal decree for establishments and workers that were not covered by the act (such as the Thai Bar Under Royal Patronage, the Chulabhorn Research Institute, the Thai Red Cross Society, the National Science and Technology Development Agency as well as seasonally-hired workers in farming, fishery and livestock sectors).
2. A draft royal decree to set Article 40 insured person’s qualifications, criteria and contribution payment rates, and compensation.
3. A draft ministerial regulation for criteria, methods and conditions for a payment of ageing compensation grants to insured persons who were not of Thai nationality
4. A draft ministerial regulation for criteria, methods and conditions for a monthly payment of unemployment compensation due to ‘force majeure’ [event in which nobody is responsible] to insured workers at 50 per cent of daily wage throughout the affected period or no more than 180 days
5. A draft ministerial regulation for the Bt30 per month contribution by government to the Social Security Fund for each insured person in case of harm, sickness, disability and death and the Bt20 per month contribution by government to the fund for each insured person in case of ageing compensation.
