Low-income mums register for newborn monthly subsidy

A total of 27,622 low-income mothers had so far registered for a Bt400 monthly subsidy for newborns, Government Spokesman Major-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said yesterday.

He said that 702 people were from Bangkok and 26,920 from other provinces. Buri Ram province had the most number of mothers – 1,448 – seeking subsidy followed by Ubon Ratchathani (1,353) and Surin (1,271).
The registration will be held until March 31 next year to allow low-income families to get the subsidy, which will be given to infants born between October 1, 2015, to September 30, 2016, until they are one-year-old. It was previously expected that this Bt600 million-budget scheme would benefit a total of 135,768 infants throughout the one-year period.
