Officer in Police Special Branch leaked letter of Russian warning

NATIONAL police chief General Chakthip Chaijinda revealed Friday that an initial probe had found that a policeman in the "Santibal" Special Branch leaked the agency's copy of a Russian warning that said 10 Syrians possibly linked to the Islamic State grou

Chakthip said that as the probe had been completed, the Santibal was looking to conclude the case for further action.
The Special Branch, which deals with national-security issues, circulated the document to other police units but the document found its way to Thai social media. It urged that security be intensified around “target areas that Russian authorities are concerned about” including venues associated with allies that have taken part in attacks on Islamic State in Syria.
The leaking of the document brought public attention to four Syrian men whose photographs were widely shared on the Internet, but they were later cleared by police of possible links to Islamic State.
Police said the men were found to have overstayed their visas or were waiting to extend their visa. One of the men reportedly filed libel charges against the person who leaked his passport photo and information to social media.
