Police survive motorcycle bomb in Tak Bai

Police survive motorcycle bomb in Tak Bai

FOUR forensic police officers and an accompanying security team had a narrow escape yesterday morning when a motorcycle bomb exploded just after the two-truck convoy they were travelling in passed the site of the bomb in Narathiwat's Tak Bai district.

Police are blaming insurgents for the attack.
Tak Bai police inspected the scene mid-morning on Narathiwat-Tak Bai Road in Tambon Sala Mai and found what was left of the motorcycle that carried the bomb. Amid the debris spread over a large area, police found bomb fragments and parts of a Malaysian-made 25-kilogram cooking gas cylinder.
Narathiwat forensic division deputy chief Lt-Colonel Janjira Yodrak said the four forensic officers were travelling to investigate a robbery and attempted murder case in Tambon Koh Sathon when the bomb went off.
“It exploded when our trucks had only passed the spot by five metres. Hence, both trucks were damaged,” Janjira said.
This is the latest incident in a series of attacks targeting state officials.
In related news, Pol Sub-Lieutenant Ma-useng Sahoh, 56, deputy police inspector of Ma Yor Police Station, was shot dead in front of his home in Pattani’s Sai Buri district on Friday night. Police suspect the motive for the murder was either a personal conflict or the ongoing unrest.
Police said Ma-useng had returned home from prayers when assailants, who had been hiding, shot him.
He sustained a gunshot wound to the head and another to a leg and was pronounced dead at Crown Prince Sai Buri Hospital.
