Police in Nakhon Ratchasima province took 142 people to the provincial court yesterday to face charges of gambling.

The gamblers were rounded up by the Army at three gambling dens in Tambon Johor in Muang district on Saturday. They were fined by the court, while those in charge of the dens face fines and possible jail.
The operation prompted provincial police chief Pol Maj General Thakoon Nanthisiri to transfer five top officers from Johor police station to inactive posts, pending investigation of alleged negligence. Thakoon yesterday said he expected the probe to be completed within 15 days.
