Rajabhakti Park probe findings to be revealed on Dec 30

Defence Ministry permanent secretary General Preecha Chan-o-cha said yesterday that a fact-finding committee looking into corruption allegations in the construction of Rajabhakti Park would announce its finding on December 30.

Deputy permanent secretary General Chaicharn Changmongkok, chairman of the panel, had called a final meeting to resolve the issue and present the report to Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan for approval before calling a press conference next week.
A source said the panel worked on the case together with the Office of the Auditor-General and the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
“The panel only checked facts on the construction of the park and will offer observations after looking into documents and the evidence,” the source said.
Meanwhile Prawit, who is also a deputy prime minister, denied that the government had violated the human rights of students who claimed they were checking corruption allegations in the park’s construction in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
He said they had violated the Public Gathering Act and the orders of the military’s ruling National Council for Peace and Order.
“They went there only to attract public attention as a symbolic gesture. How could they possibly claim that they were checking corruption by throwing a torchlight at it?” he asked.
