Chiang Mai crash: Families of four victims bid tearful goodbyes
BATU PAHAT: The first four victims of the 13 people killed in the Chiang Mai bus crash in Thailand were sent off by family and friends at three different funeral parlours here, for cremation in Pagoh.
Retired deputy headmistress Wong Yoke Ying, 58, was the first to be sent off Friday morning.
Her family members could not contain their tears as her coffin was placed on a hearse at the Koon Yew Association funeral parlour, before leaving for Pagoh, Muar for cremation, around 8.45am.
Following this, 56-year-old businessman Ker Ah Hwee's two teenage sons led the entourage to send him off from the same funeral parlour at around 9am.
At the Hoon Cheow Tong Association funeral parlor along Jalan Sultanah here, it was also a tearful goodbye as family members of Tan Thin Thin, 39, bade her farewell.
Family members, young and old, tried to stifle their sobs as they looked at her open casket one last time before it was sealed for the funeral rites to be carried out.
Meanwhile, traditional herbal tea merchant here Lum See Seng, 63, who also died in the Chiang Mai bus crash was given a heartfelt send off at the Teng Ngee San Toh Tong funeral parlour at Jalan Tanjung Labuh here.
All their remains were sent to Fairy Memorial Park in Pagoh for cremation.
Another seven of the victims will be cremated on Saturday.
They are Tan Sui Heng, 54, Ker Bong Ngwang, 58, Low Chee Lan, 85, Chua Ah Kim, 56, Ong Pek Ming, 61, Png Ee Ting, 23, and Teng Kian Min, 57.
The two remaining victims, sisters Ong Chui Hoe, 53, and Ong Chai Hong, 58, will be cremated on Sunday.
They were killed in the tragic incident last Sunday when their bus crashed into a ravine while on tour in northern Thailand.
Nine survived while 13 of them died.
