Spending boost to raise Q4 growth: KResearch

The Thai economy in the fourth quarter could expand by 1.2 per cent from the previous quarter, thanks mainly to spending during the festive season, according to Kasikorn Research Centre.

In the third quarter, the economy expanded by 1 per cent from the previous quarter.
The government launched a measure to boost year-end spending, by allowing taxpayers to deduct purchases made during December 25-31 worth up to Bt15,000 from their taxable income.
The consumer sentiment also improved in the fourth quarter, reflected through the positive growth of domestic vehicle sales by 4.6 per cent in November from the same period last year. It was the first increase after the 30-month contraction. VAT revenue also rose in the month.
KResearch expected the economy to expand by 2.8 per cent in 2015 and forecast 2.5-3.5 per cent growth rate for 2016. Government spending would play a key role in boosting confidence next year, it said.
