Thailand offers $200,000 to aid Syrian refugees

Thailand will provide US$200,000 (Bt7.3 million) to aid Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon, the Foreign Ministry said.

Jordan and Lebanon both had taken in more than 3 million Syrian refugees since 2011. Each of them would receive $100,000, said the ministry’s Department of Information director-general Sek Wannamethee.
Thailand has previously provided humanitarian aid to unrest-affected Middle Eastern countries such as in 2014 when it had granted $200,000 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees and the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
In that year, Thailand also granted $100,000 to the Yemen Red Crescent Society to aid war-affected Yemenis, Sek said.
