Myanmar murder suspects are ‘minors’

Myanmar murder suspects are ‘minors’

Two out of four Myanmar suspects currently in custody for allegedly killing a 18-year-old schoolgirl in Ranong province last September want Myanmar authorities to confirm they are minors in the hope doing so will result in the justice system treating them

Ranong Governor Suriyan Kanchanasil yesterday revealed that the two suspects’ relatives recently presented documents showing the duo were aged under 20, so they underwent a three-party interrogation process.
However, the case evidence was strong and incriminating and police were confident they had captured the killers – not scapegoats, he added.
The schoolgirl’s body was found on September 28 in an alley in Tambon Bang Rin. She had been stabbed multiple times.
Police arrested the four suspects on a fishing trawler.
They reportedly confessed to the murder, which they claimed stemmed from the victim scolding them after they teased her.
