Ex-manager of ThaiHealth named Thai PBS chief

The Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS) has appointed a former manager of Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) as its new chief.

Two-thirds of the nine-member ThaiPBS policy committee voted Krissada Raungarreerat in as the new director-general of Thailand’s first public broadcasting service. The panel had decided to terminate media veteran Somchai Suwanban’s employment in October last year due to poor performance in preliminary evaluation.
The successful candidate will soon be invited to negotiate his salary and related benefits, the board said.
Krissada, 50, was among five candidates for this position, the selection of which began on October 26.
In a statement, Krissada said Thai PBS under his administration would be more than just a TV station. He explained that the station would raise its capacity to help mobilise society to a higher and better level, particularly in terms of consumer protection amid the rapidly changing media landscape.
“The next vision of Thai PBS must be integrated with all parts in Thai society, new media, with a thinking-out-of-the-box approach,” he said.
Krissada had been working as manager of Thai Health Promotion Foundation since 2010 and has proved himself in tasks related to branding and marketing communications.
Born on August 14, 1965, he has a bachelor’s degree in Dentistry and a master’s in Computer Science from Chulalongkorn University.
