Police intercept attempt to smuggle 11 Vietnamese people out of Thailand

Nong Khai immigration police arrested two Thai men for allegedly trying to smuggle six Vietnamese men and five Vietnamese women across the border to Laos.

Acting on tips-off, the Nong Khai immigration police intercepted a pick-up truck in Ban Phua district at 8:30 pm Thursday.
The driver, Sarut Saengrat, 30, and the navigator, Billie Chaosuan, 19, were arrested.
They said they were hired by the 11 Vietnamese at the rate of Bt500 to take them to a spot in the district where they would cross the Mekong Rive to Laos.
Police said the Vietnamese had overstayed visa for between one to four years to work as restaurant workers and home maids in Bangkok so they could not leave the kingdom via a border checkpoint.
