No casualties after Indonesia island quake

Jakarta - There were no reports of casualties or serious damage after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's Sumba island, a disaster management official said Saturday.

The quake Friday cut electricity and telephones lines, leaving the island incommunicado for hours, said Sutopo Nugroho, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency.

"Electricity is back and there are no reports of fatalities or major damage," he said.

Sumba, part of East Nusatenggara province, is one of the least developed islands in Indonesia and is short of infrastructure.
