Soi Dog to hold mobile adoptions in Bangkok

Soi Dog to hold mobile adoptions in Bangkok

Soi Dog Foundation will hold its first ever mobile adoption event for dogs rescued from the illegal dog meat trade in Bangkok on March 5.

The event will be from 5pm to 8pm at the front yard, Huamark Sports Complex, Sports Authority of Thailand. There will be dogs rescued from the illegal dog meat trade at the event for the whole family to meet. The foundation will also sell Soi Dog merchandise to raise fund to help the dogs and will hold a raffle and hand out giveaways.
Currently there are over 1,100 dogs living in a purpose-built shelter in northern Thailand and all of them have been rescued from the meat trade.
The adoption team will be on hand to chat with any prospective adopters to ensure that all the animals go to good homes, the foundation said. It said the foundation will not charge any adoption fee and any dog adopted from Soi Dog is fully vaccinated, sterilized and micro chipped.
“These dogs are really very loving and friendly and would do well in a family home. We hope to see many people attend on the day. Adopting a Soi dog or cat means you give them that chance to live a happy life in their forever home” said Cristy Baker, Adoptions Manager at Soi Dog Foundation.
The event will be sponsored by Huamark Sports Complex Sports Authority of Thailand, Shamu Shamu Pet shop and Royal Canin pet food.
The foundation has been actively campaigning against illegal dog meat trade and thus significantly reducing the number of trafficked dogs.
In 2013 an estimated 500,000 dogs per year were being exported illegally to Vietnam. Now the number of trafficked dogs has decreased significantly from 2013 to 2015 – from over 500,000 per year to around 50,000, according to the foundation.
