ITPC prize for The Nation reports on ‘Single Gateway’

A NEWS series by The Nation on the controversial “Single Gateway” scheme, initiated by the Prayut government, has won an honourable mention prize at the ITPC Awards 2015, hosted by the Information and Technology Press Club (ITPC) under the Thai Journalist

No IT news stories won first prize this year. Another honourable mention award went to Manager for 360 Degree’s ‘Digital Economy towards Digital Thailand’.
The Nation won prizes for 10 news stories from six news agencies. The honourable mention prize was Bt20,000 plus a plaque.
The ITPC also gave awards to student university newspapers. The first prize went to the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce’s “Online Superstition, Thai Teen’s Favourite Fashion,” in Hor Khao newspaper. Another story in Hor Khao and Chankasem Rajabhat University’s Chankasem Post won honourable mention awards.
The award ceremony for professional newspapers will be held on March 5, which is national journalists’ day.
Banyong Suwanpong, president of judging panels, said the The Nation’s “Single Gateway” news reports presented the various opinions and points of views of several sources. It is also distinguish on storytelling and its news angle that not only showed the impact from a national security point of concern but also noted the economic impacts as well.
The Nation’s Single Gateway” news reports ran from when the scheme was initiated till the government opted to back off from the single Internet gateway idea.
