Police chief threatens to sue Prem’s former aide Pajun

THE national police chief yesterday threatened to sue a former close aide of Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda for allegedly defaming the Royal Thai Police.

Police have summoned Admiral Pajun Tamprateep for questioning for allegedly violating the Computer Crime Act. He allegedly sent a message via the Line chat application in which he asked about the alleged “sale” of senior police positions by a retired Army general.
National Police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda said investigators would determine if Pajun had defamed the Royal Thai Police.
“If the offence of defamation was also committed, we will take legal action accordingly,” he said. “My organisation has dignity. Nobody can make ungrounded accusations against it.” The police chief said an investigative team led by his deputy General Sriwara Ransibhramanakul had summoned Pajun for questioning.
“If he fails to show up for the appointment, an arrest warrant will be issued against him,” Chakthip said, adding that police had no concerns about this case. Pajun, meanwhile, denied making a false allegation.
He said that he received a message from a friend via Line asking him about the allegation involving police positions being put up for sale.
He said he referred the question to another chat group on Line – police officers he was part of – and asked if the allegation was true and who the retired Army general in question was.
“I just wanted to find facts so that I could inform the prime minister. I had no intention of exposing that general,” Pajun explained.
