Former Constitutional Court justice Chalermpon dies

Former Constitutional Court justice Chalermpon Ake-uru died on Friday at the age of 70 after falling unconscious while at home in Nakhon Pathom’s Sam Phran district. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.

Chalermpon, who had a history of high blood pressure, was found unconscious in his home beside a staircase. He was believed to have lost consciousness and fallen suddenly to the ground before climbing the stairs. 
Two days before, he had been examined at hospital for fainting and feeling tightness in his chest, according to his chauffeur Prasarn Muangnil, who discovered the former judge’s body. The driver said that Chalermpon was at home alone as he had taken the ex-judge’s wife to a business meeting.
He called an ambulance for Chalermpon but he was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.
Chalermpon, born in 1945, graduated from Thammasat University’s Faculty of Law and received a master’s degree in International Law and Relations from Columbia University, New York.
He had been deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and an ambassador in many countries before joining the Constitutional Court.
