DSI wants ‘illegal’ vintage car from Wat Paknam

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has sent a letter requesting that Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen to submit a vintage Mercedes Benz owned by the nominee to be the next supreme patriarch, which has been at the centre of a tax-evasion scandal, by Mar

The request was submitted on Friday, the source said, insisting that the car was deemed illegal, so it could not be parked at the temple museum or returned to the seller Wicharn Garage.
DSI investigators would also seek an appointment to interview temple abbot Somdej Phra Maha Ratchamanga-acharn (Somdej Chuang), who was named as owner of the car, and his aide Phra Maha Satsanamunee, who allegedly arranged for the car purchase, from March 14-18, the source added.
Pol Maj Woranan Srilam, deputy spokesman of the DSI, said Justice Minister General Paiboon Koomchaya would preside over a meeting tomorrow to follow up on work by seven related units, including the DSI, Customs and the Land Transport Department, on inquiries into 6,000 luxury cars whose owners were suspected of evading tax.
