Gun heist just a robbery: Chakthip

Gun heist just a robbery: Chakthip

THE fatal attempted gun heist in Wang Burapa in Bangkok last week was not a case of transnational organised crime, National Police chief General Chakthip Chaijinda said yesterday.

Following the arrest of gang leader Zheng Yang, “Su Su”, 30, a Chinese suspect has been detained in connection with the attempted robbery at Inter Arms in Phra Nakhon district.
Chakthip said the investigation into the drama focused on the intent to steal the guns and resell them in China – as guns were expensive there.
Immigration Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Nattorn Phraosunthorn said the bureau was interrogating “Su Su” after he was sent from Phuket to Bangkok on Sunday. Police found that he sold telephone Sim cards to the gang members.
The man has visited Thailand 17 times since May 30, 2015. He has a temporary business visa for a tour business.
He said the bureau was considering repatriating and blacklisting him from entering the country. If he was involved in the incident, he would face criminal charges, Nattorn said.
Meanwhile the Criminal Court granted police permission to detain the gang leader from March 7-18.
Police opposed bail, saying he had committed a serious crime and had no permanent residence.
