Failed poll was not our fault Suthep claims

Suthep Thaugsuban, the former leader of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee, said yesterday he was ready to prove in court that he did not cause the February 2014 election to fail.

“It is the Yingluck government that bears responsibility for the failure of the election [in February 2014]. I am glad that the Election Commission [EC] will bring the case to the court so that I can prove my innocence,” Suthep said.
The EC has said it plans to seek a total of Bt2.4 billion in compensation from former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra and Suthep, pending a resolution by prosecutors to decide who will face civil liability for the failed poll and how much compensation must be paid for public funds wasted on the failed national ballot.
The EC resolved last week to pursue the charge, and has already submitted the case to the Office of the Attorney General for further legal processing.
