AMLO to confiscate Bt10.9m claimed by Taiwanese businessman
The Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO)’s transaction committee yesterday resolved to seize Bt10.9 million cash belonging to Taiwanese national Kao Han Chia, who claimed to have been robbed in 2009 and was later found involved in a “call-centre” scam.
AMLO chief Sihanart Prayoonrat said Kao claimed to have been robbed by four Taiwanese men at his home in Chiang Mai. However, once the suspects were arrested and seized with the cash in December the same year, Kao suspiciously left for Taiwan the following day without waiting to reclaim the cash and did not return to Thailand.
Police later learned that Kao was allegedly involved in a “call-centre” scam and the cash was believed to have been acquired illegally, he said.
