Six dead in motorboats collision in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur - At least six people drowned when two motorised passenger boats collided in Borneo in eastern Malaysia, a local fire and rescue official said Sunday.

Twenty four other people were rescued in the accident that occurred late Saturday on a river in Penimbawan town in the eastern state of Sabah, about 1,640 kilometres east of Kuala Lumpur, according to district Fire and Rescue chef Mohamad Asnan Led.
All six fatalities were women and girls who had attended a wedding celebration, Mohamad Asnan said.
Search and rescue operations were still being carried out because the number of people in the two boats was unknown.
Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the accident.
