Gathering to boost region’s work training, labour skills
Cooperation between top staff from across the Asean region concerned with TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) is designed to inspire more effective national training systems across the region.
Attending the Third Regional Policy Dialogue on TVET will be more than 50 senior national and regional policy-makers in education and labour and participants from the private sector of Asean member states.
It is the third event of this unique format of panel discussion as well as intense exchanges in small groups. They will share knowledge and discuss policies for enhancing quality in TVET staff development in the Asean region.
Organisers say building and ensuring a high-quality regional TVET system requires multi-stakeholder cooperation like the Regional Policy Dialogues which take place this month in Bangkok. Involved will be policy makers, TVET training institutions, research networks and the private sector.
In the light of the newly launched Asean Economic Community and the Asean Socio-Cultural Community, the relevance and demand for skilled labour, as well as regionally comparable standards, play an extremely vital role for driving economic and social development on national and regional levels.
The planners said regional cooperation between executive and professional staff from across the Asean region would make national TVET systems more effective and their quality regionally comparable.
Accordingly, policies and good practices for raising quality of TVET personnel qualifications will be at the focus of the sessions during the Third Regional Policy Dialogue.
Also at the dialogue will be regional stakeholders from the Asean Secretariat, SEAMEO, Unesco Regional Office in Bangkok and actors from the German Development Cooperation, including TVET-experts from Germany.
Additionally, the sessions will draw upon evidence-based research from the regional cooperation platform for TVET Teacher Education in Asia (RCP), and take up discussion points and recommendations from the Regional TVET Conferences in Vientiane 2015 and the Asia-Pacific Conference on Education and Training in Kuala Lumpur 2015.
The Third Regional Policy Dialogue is co-hosted by the Deutsche Gesellschaft for Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Asean Secretariat and Thailand’s Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) and facilitated by GIZ’s “Regional cooperation programme to improve the training of technical and vocational education and training personnel (RECOTVET)”, which is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
