Thais warned of heatstroke risk

People are advised to avoid the scorching sun and drink lots of water as precautions in the face of heatstroke risk.

The Bangkok Emergency Medical Service Centre Thursday offered some tips to help people lower the risk of body overheating.
“Wear loose, light clothes in light colours,” it said.
It said people should also wear wide hats and apply sunscreen with SPF15 up.
“People with chronic health problems need to be extra careful if heat can affect their conditions,” the centre added.
It said if jobs or workout required outdoor activities and exposure to sunlight, people should try to minimise the exposure time as much as possible.
“Don’t let anyone stay inside the car that is parked under the sun. Don’t forget to bring any child passenger out of the vehicle after parking,” it added.
Heat stroke is the result of the body temperature rising above 40 degrees Celsius, and other symptoms included a throbbing headache; lack of sweat; dizziness; disorientation; rapid and shallow breathing; an abnormal heartbeat; seizures; and unconsciousness. Death can occur if someone is not treated in time.
