Families of five killed in building collapse in Krabi get compensation

THE Labour Ministry has given money from the Social Security Office Fund (SSO) to the families of five women killed when a gymnasium they were helping to build collapsed in Krabi’s Muang district on Friday.

Ministry spokesman Teerapol Khunmuang yesterday said that the Krabi SSO branch would provide Bt30,000 funeral aid and Bt449,280 death compensation to each of the deceased workers’ families.
Krabi Governor Pinit Boonler, other officials and civil engineers inspected the scene of the incident at the Institute of Physical Education’s Krabi campus yesterday.
The building’s contractor, Ekkachai Limsathayurat, briefed the governor on the project’s procedures.
He said the Bt98 million project had progressed to laying the concrete for the second floor.
He said while workers were pouring |ready-mix cement to make the floor, the five workers killed were collecting debris on the lower floor.
One of the five workers might have accidentally crashed a loaded tri-wheel cart into the scaffolding, resulting to the collapse, he said.
Ekkachai said he would assist the deceased workers’ families and initially paid Bt10,000 to each family for their funerals.
Killed were Jitranon Saikaew, 26, Kathleeya Jandeewan, 22, Yad Codon, 42, Warin Rachabuth, 31, and Linthong Promsuwan, 37.
