Solid evidence in Mercedes case: Police

Solid evidence in Mercedes case: Police

THERE is solid evidence against the wealthy man who was allegedly behind a fatal road accident last month in Ayutthaya province, Provincial Police Region 1 commissioner Pol Lt-General Chaiwat Getvorachai said yesterday.

“Judging by the evidence, we are confident the suspect will be prosecuted,” he said.
The suspect, Jenpop Weeraporn, was driving his Mercedes-Benz at a speed of at least 215 kilometres per hour when it crashed into the rear of another car, which caught fire from the impact and killed the two people inside.
Nongkarat Rungsaeng, the younger sister of one of the victims, said yesterday that her family was planning to ask inquiry officials to press more charges against Jenpop.
“We are in the process of gathering evidence to back our request,” she said, without elaborating.
The suspect, who is now in jail, is facing several charges related to the accident. Among them are reckless driving that led to two deaths, property damage and drunk driving.
Nongkarat also said the suspect’s family had only met her family once, and nothing has been heard from them since.
