Maepranom’s daughter has agreed to give back some assets but not all, lawyer says

THE daughter of Pranom Daengsupha, founder of the well-known Maepranom chilli-paste brand, had a preliminary agreement to return three land plots and pay her mother Bt1 million a month, a lawyer for Pranom said yesterday.

But her daughter had not yet agreed to return 18,200 shares in the company to her mother, the lawyer said.
The Taling Chan Provincial Court has set a hearing for May 30 on the result of the out-of-court negotiations, so both sides will have to settle their differences by then.
Pranom had sued her eldest daughter Siriporn and son-in-law Suchart Pasaprates for the return |of assets worth Bt561 million |that she and another daughter said were transferred illegally to the couple.
Pranom’s lawyer Pisit Chutipornpongchai said both sides agreed yesterday to an initial out-of-court settlement.
The three plots of land, one in Bangkok’s Sethakit Estate, one in Khon Kaen and one in Khao Yai in Nakhon Ratchasima, would be handed back to Pranom.
Siriporn, who has been running the Maepranom chilli paste business, would pay her mother compensation of Bt1 million every month.
However, the daughter had not agreed yet to return Pranom’s shares in the business, which were allegedly transferred illegally |following the death of Pranom’s husband, who co-founded the popular chilli-paste business over five decades ago.
Pranom also demanded that daughter Siriporn pay her Bt20 million to cover debt incurred by buying land to open a restaurant, which Pranom ran to support |herself and other daughters after allegedly being pressured to |leave Siriporn’s home.
Earlier, Pranom took her case to Government House, seeking help from the PM’s Office centre for |public service.
She claimed she was misled by her daughter to sign legal documents that allowed the daughter to take over the family business, even though she was still a major shareholder.
The elderly mother has vowed not to withdraw her complaint from court until her eldest daughter transfers the assets back to her.
The case has attracted huge attention. Even PM’s Office Minister ML Panadda Diskul helped mediate in the dispute earlier this month.
Siriporn’s lawyer Tawicha Wangpokha has insisted that the negotiations in the presence of Panadda did not cover the shares and Bt20 million in debts.
