PM sends good wishes to senior citizens

PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday offered his good wishes to the country’s senior citizens on the occasion of National Elderly Day.

He also urged family members to ensure the well-being of their elderly parents and relatives.
The prime minister wished all senior citizens strong health – physical and mental – as well as joyous moments with their families during the Songkran Festival, according to Government Spokesman Maj-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd.
Prayut also said everyone should be aware of the importance of elderly family members and take good care of them and check whether their monthly seniority pension was received correctly. If there was anything wrong with the payment, the children or grandchildren should contact the responsible authorities to claim the money, he added.
The government pays a seniority pension at a progressive rate ranging from Bt600 to Bt1,000 a month in accordance with the recipient’s age. This year, almost 8 million senior citizens are registered for the payment, while the government has set aside a budget of Bt63 billion for them, according to the spokesman.
