Ratchanonk wins Singapore Open, tipped as world's No 1

RATCHANOK INTANON of Thailand Sunday became the champion of the Singapore Open, getting a shot at history by unofficially rising to world’s No-1 female badminton player.

Ratchanok beat Sun Yu of China in 2:1 games – 18:21, 21:11, and 21:14.
“I want to be world number one now I can do it and I'm looking forward to the Olympic games,” Ratchanok said after her victory.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha admired Ratchanok’s victory, Government Spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd told reporters right after the match.
He said the prime minister was happy that Ratchanok became the world’s No 1 now. The prime minister also urged Thais to pour moral support for her quest for Olympics victory.
Ratchanok took two titles on the trot before arriving in Singapore, winning the India Open (Superseries) and Malaysia Open (Superseries Premier) events.
The official ranking will be updated on Thursday following the Singapore Open results.
