Huge interest in cheap homes
The junta's affordable housing scheme, so-called Baan Pracha Rath, has witnessed overwhelming success with over 33,050 individuals seeking subsidised loans from participating financial institutions, said the government's spokesman.
Government spokesman Maj-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd did not reveal the combined value of loan applications for the scheme from March 23 to April 18. Nearly all of the applications – 31,352 – were filed at the Government Savings Bank, he said.
Sansarn said 1,628 loan applicants had received approvals so far.
He said huge interest in the scheme was in line with the government’s determination to boost housing affordability among low-income earners.
“The prime minister was elated with the positive response but he was concerned that some applications have not yet been approved, including those from indebted civil servants,” Sansern said.
