Dinosaur Planet’s Ferris wheel shut for safety inspection following fire on the weekend

The authorities have suspended the use of the giant Ferris wheel inside the Dinosaur Planet theme park in Bangkok pending a safety inspection, after one of its cars caught fire on Saturday.

“We have to check its safety. Now it’s off limits to members of the public,” Klong Toei district office director Acharawadee Chaisuwirat said yesterday.
She said the firm that operates Dinosaur Planet and officials from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Public Works Department would jointly conduct the inspection.
“We will allow the giant wheel to reopen only after it is certified as safe by experts,” Acharawadee said.
The fire did not result in any casualties. When the fire started, the ride was closed as a safety precaution because it was raining.
Acharawadee said the fire was believed to have been caused by a short circuit.
The rest of the theme park is open to the public as usual.
