Bt8.8m money-truck robber ‘confesses to crime’

POLICE have said a lone motorcyclist who allegedly robbed a money truck in Pattaya City of Bt8.8 million last month confessed to copying the act from movies.

Police have retrieved Bt5.9 million of the stolen money and a car bought with the stolen cash.
National police chief General Chakthip Chaijinda presented the suspect, Itthidech Phomee, 40, at a press conference yesterday along with evidence that included the stolen cash and a .38 pistol with 33 bullets, following his arrest in Pathum Thani’s Klong Luang district on Friday.
On April 6, the gun-wielding Itthidech allegedly held up Siam Administrative Management Co Ltd employees while they were about to refill an ATM outside Big C’s southern Pattaya branch in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district.
Provincial Police Region 2 deputy chief Major General Kittipong Ngaomuk said the suspect confessed to the crime, saying he carried it out alone by copying the actions he saw from movies. It was reported that he surveyed the escape routes three days prior to the robbery.
He will be charged with armed robbery, having a gun and ammunitions without permission, and carrying and firing a weapon in a public place without good reason.
Kittipong also revealed that Itthidech was wanted under four other arrest warrants in Phichit and Kamphaeng Phet for alleged illicit drug possession and murder.
