Rangsit varsity cancels exams due to cheating

RANGSIT UNIVERSITY has voided the results of its medicine, pharmacy and dentistry admissions tests after finding hi-tech cheating via smart watches and wireless cameras hidden in eyeglasses.

Arthit Ourairat, the university’s owner and rector, said on Facebook that the entrance exams held on Saturday and yesterday had to be cancelled because of |systematic cheating using electronic gadgets.
Students who hoped to enter the university’s medical school paid as much as Bt800,000, he said, adding that they were guaranteed they would pass the exam or they could get their money refunded.
Along with the post, a photo showed |eyeglasses with a camera hidden in the |left side of the frame.
The camera fed questions to an outside location, and answers were sent to test-takers’ smart watches via SMS.
The university seized three smart watches from the applicants and decided to scrap the exams.
A new round will be held on May 31 and June 1.
Tutors might be behind the cheating, Arthit added.
Meanwhile, Rangsit University also issued an urgent notice signed by the rector reiterating that the second round of entrance exams for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy faculties had been cancelled.
The reason given was clear evidence of fraud.
The new exams will be held on May 31 and June 1 at the same venue, the university said.
