Mother of disabled man accuses eight of involvement in murder of her son

The mother of Somkiat Srijan, the disabled bread-delivery man allegedly killed by six young men in Bangkok last Sunday, yesterday presented evidence to police suggesting the involvement of a total of eight perpetrators in the fatal assault.

Accompanied by lawyer Anantachai Chaidech, Thongkham Srijan, 64, also filed a complaint at Chokchai Police Station demanding an additional charge of threatening to kill against Kratae (assumed name), the 19-year-old girlfriend of one of the alleged attackers, who reportedly threatened to kill Somkiat’s relatives if her boyfriend was jailed.
Anantachai, who also witnessed the attack, said the family presented more evidence including photos from CCTV footage to prosecute the eight suspects who were at the scene – the six men and two girls named Kwan and Fern (assumed names) – for premeditated murder because they had called their friends, telling them to bring swords.
They also wanted Kwan charged with threatening behaviour because she and the other girl allegedly issued verbal threats and abused Somkiat’s relatives at a hospital following the attack.
Police later said there was no evidence to support this accusation but Anantachai said if police wouldn’t file the charges, they would take the case to the Central Investigation Bureau.
Thongkham broke into tears and called for justice for her son, while Somkiat’s nephew Methas Polprasert said he would pursue charges against all suspects involved in his uncle’s death.
Somkiat’s cremation would not be held until the case is finished, Methas said.
