Wanchai shoots himself

Wanchai shoots himself

Dr Wanchai Danaitamonut, a lecturer at Phranakhon Rajabhat University, who is suspected of murdering two colleagues on Wednesday, shot himself Thursday evening.

He shot himself at about 6:45 pm after he was besieged by police at noon at a Bangkok hotel.
Police rushed medical staffs to help him and took him away in an ambulance.
He shot himself while he was walking to the other side of the Suparp Hotel in Saphan Kwai’s area.
He was found earlier Thursday outside a Bangkok hotel.
During the over-six-hour negotiations, Wanchai pointed his pistol at his ample temple during hours of negotiations with police and relatives for his surrender.
The standoff since noon, broadcast live by many television channels, was still continuing into the evening.
Wanchai was accused of shooting dead two doctorate-degree holders – Pichai Chaisongkram, 56, and Nattapon Chumworathayee, 54 – while they were giving an oral exam to a master’s student on campus.
The motive was believed to be Wanchai’s alleged conflict over academic qualifications with Pichai, although it remains unclear if Wanchai also had issues with Nattapon.
As an army of TV and reporters observed the standoff inside and in the parking lot of the hotel on Suttisan Winitchai Soi 1, police brought two senior relatives of Wanchai and two students to the scene to convince him to put down the gun, which he kept pointing at his ample temple, while standing next to his car within the hotel compound.
