10-year-old boy ‘accidentally’ hangs to death

10-year-old boy ‘accidentally’ hangs to death

TRAGEDY HAS struck a few days into the new school term after a 10-year-old Prathom 4 pupil was found hung to death in his classroom in Kamphaeng Phet’s Bueng Samakkhee district on Wednesday.

The boy’s relatives including his father suspect his death might have been the result of an accident while he played with friends.
It was reported that after his mum dropped him off at school on Wednesday, the boy played with his friends and ran up to the second floor classroom and locked it. His cousin went after him, saw him hanging, and told the boy’s mum, who shrugged it off as untrue and went home.
As other kids were attending the morning flag-raising ceremony, a teacher found the boy hanging by a scout rope from the ventilation grill and alerted others. By the time the boy’s father arrived at school and rushed him to hospital, it was too late.
“I don’t know what to say because it was an accident. I just want the administrators to ensure teachers will keep an eye on pupils more,” the boy’s father said during the funeral. The father’s sister echoed that concern and said she didn’t think the boy committed suicide. She said this likely stemmed from him playing without realising the potential harmful consequences of the act, as she sometimes heard the boy had played adventurously with ropes.
Bueng Samakkhee police superintendant Colonel Anek Chansorn said the evidence and witness testimonies pointed to the boy hanging himself and the boy’s relatives did not have doubts about the cause of death.
Anek urged teachers to keep an eye on pupils and ensure their safety in school as children this age were unable to fully realise the possible consequences of their actions.
