When crossing roads becomes fun
Students enjoy a 3D-zebra crossing at a school in the northern province of Uttaradit.
News of Anuban Uttaradit School's 3D pedestrian crossing went viral since last Saturday when it posted photographs of its artwork, which also functions as a crosswalk linking different buildings on campus.
The zebra crossing, made to look like realistic steps, was initiated by school director Thamrong Nuamsiri, who wants to cultivate discipline among students by encouraging them to use the zebra crossing when crossing roads.
The 3D zebra crossing was painted in school's two campuses by its art teachers.
This optical illusion has captivated students, and the school said that students now take care in crossing the road and are getting more interested in learning about colour theory. The eye-catching crosswalk is also encouraging drivers to slow down.
Anuban Uttaradit is not the first school to come up with a 3D zebra crossing.
Phitsanulok's Rojanawit School was the first to post a similarly stunning pedestrian crossing in its campus on May 13.
The school said that students have been enjoying taking photographs with this exciting artwork.
However, this project has been met with both praise and criticism, with some warning that it could lead to accidents for those who are unaware of it.
