The dance of the red snapper

The dance of the red snapper

Japanese Ambassador to Thailand Shiro Sadoshima on Wednesday visited The Nation headquarters to promote a project to boost bilateral ties to commemorate the 130th anniversary of Thai-Japanese relations next year.

A special mascot, “Muay Thaishi”, has been created as the symbol of the two countries’ long and close relationship.
Muay Thaishi is a red snapper. It so happens that in Japan, that type of fish is called thai, and it is served on such auspicious occasions as weddings and birthdays because Japanese people believe it brings good luck.
Muay Thaishi practises Muay Thai, but he is not good at punching and kicking, so he prefers bumping. And we all dance along!
The ambassador invited Suthichai Yoon, Nation Multimedia Group’s editorial adviser, to dance like the mascot.
“He came calling today and when he started the dance ... I had to follow ... to tape a video celebrating the anniversary,” Suthichai wrote on his Facebook page.
Watch out for the real thing ... coming to you soon!
