Soi Dogs appeals for urgent adoptions

Soi Dogs appeals for urgent adoptions

Soi Dog Foundation Monday makes an urgent plea for animal lovers to help adopt rescued dogs and cats, saying its two shelters in Phuket and Buri Ram have become crowded.

The limited space at the two shelters make it difficult for the foundation to take in and treat more street dogs and cats in desperate need, Soi Dog said in a press statement.
Soi Dog, since its establishment in 2003 and with the help of its supporters worldwide, has managed to rehome thousands of dogs and cats, with 490 animals finding suitable loving forever homes in 2015 alone.
Currently with the Phuket shelter has an average of 662 animals under Soi Dog’s staffs’ care at any time, and 900 animals are under Soi Dog care at Buri Ram.
“By adopting instead of buying a pet, potential pet owners make a life-changing difference to an animal in real need,” The foundation said in the statement.
In order that the foundation can take in and treat more animals in desperate need, members of the adoptions team at Soi Dog have intensified their efforts to get the rehabilitated animals adopted to suitable adoptive animal lovers in Thailand and the rest of the world.
“Rehoming dogs and cats is a major part of our work, and the success of our adoptions programme has a huge impact on our ability to provide treatment and care to more animals in need,” Teresa Colman, Adoptions Manager, said.
“We work really hard to find each adopter the right pet and we will help you find the right pet for you. We have so many animals that would make wonderful pets, and we are really keen to find them safe and loving homes with Thai families and the ex-pat community.”
Colman said if ex-pats need to return to their home country, Soi Dog can provide guidance about how to take their adopted dog or cat with them.
“Whilst some Thai dogs and cats may take time to adjust to their new owners and environment, they make extremely loyal and loving pets, particularly animals saved from tough lives on the streets that seem to understand they’ve been given a second chance,” she added.
Potential adopters will need to complete a short interview with the adoptions team.
“We have an interview with adopters to get to know them better and to make sure we’re matching the right pet for the right reasons with the people in the right home.  It is great if potential adopters can visit the shelter, and as we appreciate that this can be a challenge during the week, we now offer an appointment service on Saturday mornings between 9am and 12pm,” Colman said.
Interested potential adopters can call Charoenkhwan Pongpradith – Thai Adoptions Co-ordinator at 098 868 0058 or email [email protected] during the week to schedule an appointment.
