No casualties from fire in Thong Lor pub

No casualties from fire in Thong Lor pub

A fire broke out at the Funky Villa pub in Bangkok’s Watthana district early Tuesday but there were no casualties. The cause of the fire is under investigation though police believed it might have been caused by a short circuit.

Following the fire report at 2.30am, police and fire-fighters with 10 fire engines rushed to the scene, a single-storey 100-square-wa pub in Thong Lor Soi 10. It took them 45 minutes to put out the flames.

Waiter Lert Nanthajoy, 40, and pub manager Rewat Palawat, 36, both said the pub was closed and some 40 staff members were cleaning the premises when they sensed a burning smell coming from the kitchen ceiling at 2.15am. They saw sparks on the electrical wire. As the fire spread quickly, they tried to put out the flames with some 30 fire extinguishers but failed so they alerted the police. By the time help had arrived, the entire kitchen was gutted.
