MWRN supports upgrade in TIP report
The Migrant Workers Rights Network supports the upgrade of Thailand's ranking in the US annual Trafficking in Persons Report to Tier 2 Watchlist.
"Thailand has carried out some significant improvements in the past year, but it is a long way to go," the network said in a statement. "A year at Tier 2 watch list is when Thailand can show international community its genuine commitment to address trafficking."
The most significant improvement was the Department of Employment’s new regulation to prevent outsource agents and subcontracts from bringing migrant workers into Thailand, following close consultation with the network.
The US Department of State is due to release the annual report later tonight.
