Police probe ‘hi-so’ woman over her treatment of maids

POLICE have asked the Immigration Bureau to check the travel history of a “high-society” woman identified only by her nickname ‘Kai’, who allegedly accepts hilltribe girls into her care and offers to send them abroad.

They want to determine if the woman’s behaviour is lawful, an informed source reported yesterday.
‘Kai’ was in the news recently after she filed a complaint to police accusing her 19-year-old former maid Prapawan “Goi” Jaikla and Prapawan’s parents of a Bt10-million theft.
Prapawan and her parents countered by claiming they were bullied with the Bt10-million theft accusation after the maid refused Kai’s offer to send her abroad.
Goi’s lawyer Songkran Atchariyasap said he had previously brought the daughter of Kai’s former maid Sukanya Sirimoung, who was jailed following a similar complaint, to file a police complaint. He alleged Kai had done this to other employees
He said he was gathering evidence ahead of bringing a Navy captain, whose daughter allegedly received an offer by Kai to go abroad, to testify to police investigators by Tuesday.
Another former maid identified only as ‘Noona’ – who was jailed for one and a half years over a similar theft charge – testified to police yesterday.
Kai maintains she is innocent of any wrongdoing and has evidence to prove it.
Maj-General Thanawat Leepong of the Crime Suppression Division said police had interviewed five or six people in relation to the case.
Kai throughout this time insisted she had done nothing wrong and claimed that she had evidence including CCTV footage against Goi.
