Escaped Asiatic bear captured in Sa Kaew after biting man

Veterinarian Pattarapol Manee-on from the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department led a team of park officials to successfully capture an Asiatic black bear on Wednesday.

The animal had been seen in wooded areas outside Ban Tha Chang Moo 4 in Sa Kaew’s Wattana Nakhon district since late last month.
Pattarapol accompanied by officials from the Chong Klam Bon Wildlife Breeding Station and the Pang Sida National Park and local volunteers conducted a search in the forest. During the search, Chong Klam Bon official Kanya Sawatdeerapa, 30, was attacked and bitten on the leg by the bear.
In order to stop the animal from mauling its victim, a Pang Sida official began shooting in the air to scare it, while another officer shot it with a tranquilliser. Although the animal fled, it was later captured and sent to the Chong Klam Bon Wildlife Breeding Station before undergoing therapy intended to enable it to be returned to the wild.
